Getting There

skyscannerPhuket International Airport (HKT) is serviced by many airlines with direct flights from all over Asia and Europe.

Some carriers offer flights to Phuket via Bangkok (BKK) or Kuala Lumpur (KUL) Airport, both of which are a short hop away with several connections per day, so you will be able to find good connections there as well as via Singapore (SIN).

For good deals on flights, see what Skyscanner can do for you.

Direct overnight coach connections from Bangkok and Kuala Lumpur are available. At low prices and surprising travel times, the drivers will make sure your trip is an experience.

From within Thailand, Direct flights are available from Bangkok, Krabi, Koh Samui, Chiang Mai, just to name the major airports. So-called low-cost airlines such as AirAsia and Nok-Air will service these connections, of course. Bangkok Airways have a record of very good service at reasonable prices.

Airport Transfers

Grab logo

We can arrange airport transfers for you if you give us your flight details ahead of time.

General taxi services are offered by Grab (formerly known as GrabTaxi), an app very similar to UBER. Grab allows you to book metered taxis as well as limousines and larger vehicles at very competitive rates without the need to haggle with drivers and explain to them where you want to go.

We Freedive is a known location within the Grab app, so the drivers will know where you are going before they even pick you up. You can get the app here:

An alternative to and from Phuket International Airport is the official Airport limousine service. They offer a very convenient and still affordable means of getting from the Airport to your Accommodation. Their staff will welcome you at the arrival gate, right after you have passed customs, asking whether you require a Taxi. Our experience with them has been good and we can recommend their service. They have fixed prices that are not so far away from what you would pay on the less comfortable metered Taxis, which are available outside the terminal building to your right. You can recognise the Taxi stand by the usually long queue.

You may also wish to ask if your hotel offers airport transfers.

There is also an Airport Bus service From HKT to Phuket Town Bus Terminal. The tradeoff for a significantly lower price is convenience and your time.

Getting Around in Phuket

If you are going to use a taxi, we can only recommend using Grab for any Taxi services around the island.

Other forms of public transportation are available in by way of motorbike taxis, tuk tuks, taxis or the songthaew (bus/pickup) which will get you around the island.

The songthaew is the slowest means of transportation and usually will have a fixed price per person which you can ask before getting on the bus, At the time of writing this, the fare is 30 Baht per person and ride. These run regularly during Daylight hours to and from Phuket city centre. Please make sure that you agree on a price before you use any of the other transport services.

Tuk Tuks in Phuket are renowned for extortionate pricing, inability to navigate the island and loud music playing with a generally high entertainment value at the cost of efficiency. Your mileage may vary.

For maximum flexibility, we recommend hiring a motorcycle, which is by far the most convenient, cheap and fun means of transportation to get around and explore the Island. If you choose to ride a motorbike or scooter, do wear the safety helmet that is provided, and adhere to the local law of the roads, Traffic in Thailand may be very different from your home country. Keep your eyes open, your speed down and drive defensively.

You can also rent bicycles as a great opportunity for some cross training. The same rules of the road apply as stated above for motorbikes.
